What is Your Favourite Day?

If you could spend your day doing whatever you wanted to, what would it be? A friend asked me that recently and I had absolutely no trouble telling her. For her, she had to struggle a bit with some parts of her day, but, for me, it’s a no-brainer. I would start my morning with coaching my girls’ hockey team. I love to watch them playing their best, working together and getting their bodies moving. I don’t fancy the smell of the change room but I like to overhear their chit chat with the rest of the team. So, for my favourite day, let’s pretend the change room smells like peonies (one of my faves). And, since I get to choose, the girls win their game. When school is in, I try to start the day with a run or workout. That is where I can feel good about myself and it starts my day out on the right foot. I love how empowered I feel throughout the day and it takes away some of the guilt for the evening vino. After a hot shower, I would head out to Queen Street, Yorkville or Yonge Eglinton areas in Toronto. The shop browsing is calming, inspiring and it makes me happy. Design ideas come from so many places; beautiful clothes, store windows, signage, trending colours and what people are wearing on the street. Just keeping my eyes open is all I need to make shopping successful. Next, and this is non-negotiable, is luncheon with my best girlfriends. We call ourselves the Raquettes and even developed a group logo for our, necessary, business cards. We will laugh our entire lunch. Afterwards, we’ll head to a water spa with circuits of plunge pools, saunas, eucalyptus steam rooms and salt water baths. I feel so invigorated when I leave and, combined with the lovely company, it is better than any retreat could offer. Some areas are no-talking areas; that’s a bit tricky. The perfect ending to the day is to have dinner with my family at a fabulous Italian restaurant. In winter, my husband and I would share a cold red wine. In summer, a pinot grigio, although I won't say no to rosé. My clothing would be something I discovered at the One-of-a-Kind Show, or from one of the Canadian designers I admire. My accessories would include a layer of my silk wraps with two silver seed bracelets (I don’t leave home without these). I love to make my outfit fun including pearls layered with silver and my leather jacket. I adore the combination of soft, sensual materials and lovely, feminine jewellery against the rugged leather. I feel beautiful and badass at the same time. I would go to bed early, relaxed, rejuvenated and ready for the next day. Somehow, just talking about the perfect day, makes me smile a little easier and feel a little lighter. That doesn't mean I don't need a day at the spa with my friends; every girl needs that!
