Let your Canadian pride shine bright...penny style!
What better way to celebrate 150 great years of this great country we call Canada than reflecting on the the iconic Canadian penny.
We may not be carrying one-cent coins around in our wallets any longer, but the now-retired penny holds a special place in the hearts and minds of many Canadians – including mine.
I’ve always been a very proud Canadian – and Citrus Silver has always been unapologetically Canuck too. We happily do business in the US, but our main focus is the true north strong and free, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
It seemed like a fitting tribute to our country – and our beloved one-cent coin – to turn it into a beautiful piece of jewellery that can be worn close to the heart – or kept on a key ring for good luck. And so, our Citrus Silver Canadiana Collection was born.
The penny is at the heart of this collection, accented by other charms featuring very ‘Canadian’ symbols (think hockey sticks, maple leaves and paddles). And that’s just the beginning. We’ll be expanding the collection over the course of this year in celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday, so you can expect to see new and special products added to the collection over the coming months.
One of the neatest things about the Canadiana Collection is that you can request a penny from a certain year. Like the one you got married. Or moved to Canada. Or that your child was born.

I sometimes find myself sifting through old pennies at a local coin shop, but most of the coins that have landed in our jewellery have been passed on by friends, and sorted around the dining room table by family members (my kids are pretty useful this way:)
Once I’ve picked out the good ones and sorted them by year, they spend a night in the tumbler. This removes stains and tarnish and, after a hand-polish, our pennies look good as new and are ready to set in your choice of a sterling silver or copper frame.
