Summer Lovin: 5 Tips for Keeping Your Silver Clean this Summer
Your summer plans include sunning on the dock (think all that sunscreen), swimming with your kids at your neighborhood pool (chlorine!), outdoor BBQs (bug spray) and more. Are there dangers lurking everywhere for your sterling silver jewellery?! Relax (in that hot summer sun!) we have a few quick tips for preserving the shine on your pieces so you can always wear your favourite pieces!
1. Steer Clear of Chlorine
Many women tell us they wear their Citrus Silver pieces every day. We love that! And while we encourage you to make Citrus Silver a part of your normal look, there is just one circumstance when we don’t really recommend you wear it: in a chlorinated pool. It may be fine - some levels of chlorine won’t alter your silver in any way, but a highly chlorinated pool could do some damage. The best practice might just be leaving it poolside. Lakes, oceans and saltwater pools … no problem!
2. Watch Your Bath & Shower Products
You can safely wear your Citrus Silver jewellery in the shower where it comes into contact with water and a mild bar of soap. However, if you are bathing in an epsom salt bath, or using a highly perfumed bath product, we recommend taking your jewellery off before stepping in the tub or shower stall. This will maintain your jewellery’s look. Bathing regularly in the summer is good for your social life (wink) but also good for keeping sweat off the skin, which can also impact your jewellery.
3. Practice Safe Cleaning
There are usually more products going on our skin in the summer months including sunscreen and bug spray. We also sweat more, when out in the hot summer sun. The best way to keep your jewellery from getting dull and sticky as a result is to practice safe cleaning. We’ve shared our cleaning tips before so check them out here. And while we don’t usually recommend a silver dip, this can be a quick and effective way of bringing the shine back to your pendant IF you follow the directions exactly and don’t dip too long.
4. Give it 10 Minutes
To limit your silver jewellery’s contact with sunscreen and bug spray, which can make the piece sticky, appear dull, and accelerate tarnish, give yourself 10! That’s 10 minutes for the product to absorb into the skin before you put on your jewellery.
5. Relax and Have Fun - There’s Always the Fall (and our help!)
Sometimes the Fall is all about correcting the sins of the summer! So if you haven’t been as diligent in keeping your piece sparkly like new, “Pin” our cleaning list for Fall reading.
