The Question We Hear All the Time: “Why CITRUS?”

If you’ve ever wandered past our booth at a market, you’ve probably seen the bright sign that simply says CITRUS. And if you’re like the lovely gentleman I met at a trade show recently, you might have tilted your head and asked, “So… what does that have to do with jewelry?”

Great question. If you’re new here, let me tell you our story.

Where Our Story Began

CITRUS started 18 years ago under the name CITRUS Silver. Our founder (Karen) was a mom heading back to work after her second child, longing for a way to stay connected to her girls while they were apart. That longing turned into a collection of personalized sterling silver jewelry, with names hand stamped so they could be carried close to the heart.

If you're an OG CITRUS fan and you've been with us since the beginning you probably remember that the tagline back then was “Silver with a Twist”. The twist was the personalization. This wasn’t just jewelry — it was a way to take your most important people, places, and moments with you.

Fast forward to today, I stepped in as the new owner in 2024. I’m Trish Houghtling, the friendly face you'll see out at markets, and my passion is continuing this legacy so your stories of connection can continue to live on. Every piece we make is handcrafted in Toronto, created to be more than just jewelry. It’s a memory you can wear.

From CITRUS Silver to CITRUS

The name evolved to CITRUS because so did we. Our collections now include gold jewelry, rose gold jewelry, leather bracelets, silk wrap bracelets, and gemstone bracelet stacks — all designed and finished in Canada. Our new tagline, Wear the moments you’ve crafted, says it all.

The Meaning Behind the Name

CITRUS still means what it always has: fresh, bright, vibrant, full of life. The kind of Canadian made jewelry that doesn’t just look pretty but reminds you what and who matters most.

Jewelry That Grows With You

Recently, we were asked to stamp a name onto a pendant that was over 10 years old. The customer had become a new grandmother to a miracle baby born after years of hope and determination. We did it for free, as we always do, because your jewelry should grow with you.
